Although SARS-CoV-2 may feel like an old topic, David Quammen’s new book, Breathless, takes a fresh look at the virus. Tackling the controversies that have surrounded the COVID-19 pandemic head on, while not shying away from the biology, Quammen offers a clear perspective on the context of the pandemic and the cast of characters that have worked tirelessly for the past two years to try to understand it.

Quammen is no stranger to writing about viral infections. One of his more recent books, Spillover (A New York Times Notable Book of the Year), is one of the go-to sources for understanding zoonoses. Now, for Breathless, he conducted 95 Zoom interviews with top virology and public health experts to gain an inside look at the work going on around the world—from laboratories to bat caves.

In this episode, veteran science writer, David Quammen, joins GEN Live from Bozeman, Montana to discuss his new book, Breathless.

A live Q&A session followed the presentation, offering a chance to pose questions to our expert panelist.
