The Mayo Clinic is building out 16,000 ft2 of biomanufacturing space in the Two Discovery Square complex in downtown Rochester, MN. The Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics is leasing the spot, a project estimated to cost $7.79 million.
Mayo Clinic has a “strategic collaboration” agreement with the La Jolla, CA-based National Resilience to create therapies derived from biologics for use in medicines, stated Julie Allickson, PhD, the director of Mayo Clinic’s Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics.
“This additional space will allow Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics to establish process and analytical development and quality control for biomanufacturing promising discoveries for early-stage clinical trials,” added Allickson. “From there, we hope to collaborate with industry to quickly bring to market first-of-their-kind biotherapeutics that offer new options for healing patients around the world.”
The Discovery Square buildings represent the core of the Destination Medical Center initiative’s 16-block “hub for biomedicine, research and technology innovation,” according to Susan Buckles, a spokeswoman for the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics.
